On February 6, 2023, we experienced a great disaster in our country due to the Gaziantep and Kahramanmaraş earthquakes. Our country had not been affected by such a large-scale disaster in a long time. The dimensions of the disaster are very large. Cities have been destroyed and many of our lives have perished in the wreckage of collapsed buildings.
As Eko International Aid Association, we have been striving to do our best to heal the wounds of the local people in the earthquake zone since the moment the earthquake occurred. After reaching Şanlıurfa first to examine the debris work and gain knowledge, we reached Adıyaman, where no aid had yet arrived, despite the earthquake being in its 20th hour. When we reached Adıyaman, we heard the screams coming from the wreckage, as the city was completely dark. Although this situation deeply affected us, we started working and coordinating with the support of your donations. As the first NGO to reach Adıyaman, where aid arrived very late, we did everything we could. We announced Adıyaman, which was not even mentioned on social media and TV screens until the end of the second day, to large masses with the contributions of our social media team, and the call for help was answered. During the long debris work and aid distribution process, our association president, Dr. Nurettin Fırat, was present on the field. We worked tirelessly day and night, both in distribution and in providing first aid to the victims rescued from the rubble. We always felt the support of our valuable donors behind us. At the same time, we also felt the heavy burden of this responsibility on our shoulders.
Now, the earthquake process is evolving into a different dimension. The debris work has almost come to an end. The real important part is the 10 provinces that we will rebuild together. The material and spiritual destruction is at its highest level. We are waiting for your donations to be able to heal these wounds together.
